Walk the Line Editing & Proofreading
Writing is a lot of fun! But editing? Not so much. That's why I'm happy to announce my new line and copy editing services for writers who need help polishing their manuscripts in preparation for submitting to an agent or publisher.
Although collaborating with an editor will tighten and polish your manuscript, please understand that acceptance for publication through a formal submission process is dependent on each publisher's specific needs at the time of submission. My promise is to help you present your best writing in a strong, clean manuscript. Also, by viewing a 10-page sample of your manuscript, that will give me a better idea of the kind of edit or proofread you need. I'm not a developmental editor (an editor who checks for overall story concept and fluidity), but will gladly refer you to Rachel at Sterling Edits, who does a fabulous job. However, my specialty centers on line and copy edits as well as proofreading. Note: Line edits and copy edits naturally demand a higher rate because they involve more time and attention. Proofreading, however, is just as important a step as editing in the production of a viable product (i.e. novels, works of non-fiction, even website copy or blog posts. I'm happy to proofread those for you before they go live as well.)*
I am a conscientious editor. My philosophy is that the author has the final say on his or her work. My suggestions are just that--although they are backed up with research and reference materials that I use while editing. My standard procedure includes a thorough run-through of a manuscript as well as a double checking read-through, looking for things I may have missed the first time. Please note that a price I quote to you, AFTER perusing a sample of your work, will be based on the extensive level of work your manuscript still needs in order to be considered "polished." Generally, however, you may expect my rates to be quoted as follows:
For line or copy editing, my rates are: $.008 to $.01 per word.
For proofreading: $.006 per word.
Testimonials of my work:
Working with Laura was a breeze. She did an amazing job and was quick to get my manuscript back to me. I look forward to working with her in the future!
Victorine E. Lieske, NYT's bestselling author, Her Big Fat Hunky Billionaire Boss
"Laura was an amazing editor to work with. She was very thorough. She also made me feel great about my story, which as a writer, is very important. I definitely recommend her services."
Anne-Marie Meyer, author of Forgiving the Billionaire
"Laura Walker is a great writer, which helped me feel confident and comfortable giving her my manuscript to edit. She did a great job, and I will happily be using her editing services again!"
Rebecca J. Greenwood, author of The Darkest Season Regency romance series
"I had Laura Walker do editing on one of my manuscripts in September. It was something that needed to be done in only a few weeks. She managed to do her part in well under the deadline, pointing out issues where I was making the same mistakes repeatedly. She also pointed out issues with the dreaded comma, and several other grammatical problems that I was able to fix to make the story tighter and closer to publishing."
Susan Cady Allred, author
"As an author, my talent is writing, not editing. I was in desperate need of a reliable, respectful editor who would handle my work with the same care and attention as myself. I found these notable qualities in Laura Walker. She is efficient, eager to work, and surpassing my expectations in her thorough critiquing completed in a quick time frame. I will need her assistance for future books and am grateful our paths have crossed."
H. R. Rekow, author of Into the Hollow series
"As a former English teacher, I consider myself an expert in proper grammar. But, even after I had poured over several drafts, Laura’s keen eye cleaned up several errors in my manuscript that my eye had glossed over. Her mastery of the illusive rules and exceptions of grammar was impressive. The notes she made were clear, and the changes outlined were valid and raised my writing up a level. I will definitely ask Laura to edit future projects for me."
Nichole D. Evans, author of Fires of Kiev
When you are at that stage where you need a second pair of eyes, Laura steps in and delivers with integrity! Her keen sense of the written word perceptively makes your manuscript into a refined masterpiece ready for publication! I strongly recommend her as a key part in your publishing process.
